What Is Sliding Glass and How Does It Work?
A sliding glass system encloses a space with glass panels that open and close by moving horizontally on tracks. Unlike hinged doors and windows it needs no swing clearance, so it preserves the usable area on narrow balconies and terraces.
The panels run between an upper and a lower track on wheeled carriers. On frameless models the panels fold to one side when opened and leave an almost uninterrupted opening. Framed models, on the other hand, give better insulation and sealing.
Framed and Frameless Options
On frameless models the view stays uninterrupted — appearance comes first. Framed models take gaskets and double glazing, so thermal and acoustic insulation improve markedly.

Partial Opening
Because the panels slide as far as you want, the amount of ventilation is freely adjustable. You never have to open the system fully — in daily use that is more practical than a guillotine system.

Advantages of a Sliding Glass System
Compared to a guillotine system, sliding glass wins on being able to gather the panels to one side and on partial opening. Its drawback is that in the open position the panels take up space along one edge.

Does frameless sliding glass insulate?
Frameless systems put appearance first and their insulation is limited; they stop wind and dust, but thermal insulation should not be expected. If you want thermal and acoustic insulation, choose a framed, gasketed model with double glazing.
