How Does Folding Glass Work?

Folding glass panels travel along a track and fold into a stack at the side. In a sliding system the panels move horizontally and stay on the track; in a folding system a stack of glass forms at the side.

We show the clear opening and the stacking space in the project drawing. For a balcony or terrace, the track, threshold and glass are chosen to suit where the system will be used.

Travels on the Track, Stacks at the Side

Each panel is moved along the track to the edge of the opening, where it turns and lines up beside the previous one. When open, the glass does not sit scattered along the track; it gathers in a single stack.

Where Does the Stack Sit When Open?

The most common question about folding glass is where the panels go when it is open. They do not disappear: they wait at one edge of the opening as a stack of parallel panes. The depth of that stack and the side it sits on are decided together during the design.

The stack position is planned in advance

If furniture, a door leaf or a walkway is on the side where the stack sits, the system becomes awkward to use. That is why we show the parking side and the space it takes in the project drawing before installation.

Terraces

On wide terraces the stack can be split so that it gathers at more than one point. The junction with the roof system and the water path are planned separately.
